Federal Express recently got FAA approval for a unique system, SenseAware, to track sensor data and events during the shipment of critically sensitive packages, such as donor organs.
In addition to their regular location tracking data, FedEx is now able to track temperature, light and other vital information about heart valves, knee implants and other organs.
The service uses light and temperature signals to notify recipients if a package has been opened or otherwise spoiled before it gets to its intended destination.
