2008 Flu Season - Concerns and Alternatives!

There is growing concern this flu season because the flu shot is not working against the flu strains that have appeared.

To give you other options, I’ve decided to republish and expand upon a Special Report that I did several years ago about what you can do to prevent or cure the flu from a natural standpoint.

Please pass this report on to other people so they can also be aware that they have alternative treatments available.

--> SPECIAL FLU SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT

NOW FOR WOMEN AND EARLY STROKE DETECTION

The same newsletter reported on a study which looked at over 16,000 mammograms and discovered that calcification in the blood vessels of the breasts can be correlated with a 54% increase in ischemic stroke.

This type of stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the brain. The American Heart Association is recommending that mammograms be used for early stroke detection.

What about the pain of a mammogram? There is now a soft foam pad, called the Woman's Touch MammoPad that can be placed on the surface of the compression plates.

A study reported at a meeting of the Radiological Society of North America reported that 70% of the women said their pain was cut in half.

To find a facility near you that offers the pad call 866 460-4141.

Another Flu Protector

In a special supplement I emailed in October I listed a number of things you can do naturally to prevent the flu or even stop it once it's started.

Here's something else you can add to defend you. It's called Colostrum and it's a nutrient-rich substance secreted by mammals just after giving birth that gives your immune system a tremendous boost.

You can get bovine colostrum in a health food store; just take it as directed.

If YOU'RE A WOMAN & YOU DRINK, THEN DO THIS

Nurses who had one drink a day had a 24% greater chance of getting breast cancer.

However, the nurses who also got 600 micrograms of folate per day cut their risk in half.

So if you're going to have a drink per day make sure you take a folate supplement.

ANOTHER FLU REMEDY THAT'S GOOD FOR FIGHTING CANCER AND HEART DISEASE, TOO!

There's a traditional African flu remedy that reduces the flu's impact.

It's called Jamaican Sorrel and is meant to be brewed as a tea. In studies with rats, it's also been shown to stop skin cancer, as well as, preventing healthy cells from becoming cancerous in the first place. Finally, it's even been found to lower blood pressure.

Tea, anyone? Just make sure it's Jamaican sorrel. You can call Vital Botanicals at 800 609-4326 to order some.

NATURAL APPROACHES FOR SKIN PROBLEMS

If you want to use a natural approach to skin care, here are a number of options for you.

1. Acne - use tea tree oil. Use a solution that is 15% or stronger. Do a patch test on your skin first to make sure you are not allergic.

2. Dermatitis - Use chamomile. You can get Camo-Care Soothing Cream from 800 783-2286.

3. Cold Sores - Use lemon balm. It may cut the life span of a cold sore in half. You can get Herpilyn from 800 783-2286.

4. Fungal Nail Infections - Use tea tree oil.

5. Athlete's Foot Use tea tree oil.

6. Dandruff - Use tea tree oil.

While Stress Creates Fat In Our Bodies, There May Be A Way Out

Chronic stress causes the body to create fat deposits around our stomach area. Scientists reported in Nature Medicine that mice that are experiencing stress activate a hormone, neuropeptide Y, which leads to fat accumulation.

This study sheds some light on why we may gain weight when we are under stress. Scientists are now beginning to study how to turn off this hormonal response. Stay tuned for more information.

Slowing Parkinson's Disease With CoQ10

Dr. Flint Beal from Cornell University reported on a sixteen-month trial that had patients taking 300 to 600 mg per day of CoQ10.

This resulted in a 25% decrease in the rate of disease progression while those patients given 1,200 mg per day experienced a 44% decrease.

Even the highest amounts were well tolerated, and studies are currently evaluating the effect of higher doses.

So... if someone you know has Parkinson, they can take at least 1,200 mg of CoQ10 every day.

Use Vinegar To Lower Glucose And Insulin Responses - and even Lose Weight!

With the rampant increase in the number of Adult Onset Diabetes patients, there may be a way to lower your glucose and insulin responses to eating carbohydrates. It's by using vinegar. In a study reported in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, volunteers drank about three tablespoons of vinegar diluted in water while they ate white bread that contained 50 grams of carbohydrates. Ninety minutes later, the volunteers had a 25% reduction in blood glucose levels and serum insulin levels.

So...if you are overweight and concerned about developing diabetes, then a glass of water with vinegar (2 teaspoons apple-cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons honey) 2-3 times per day could make a difference in preventing diabetes.  It has also shown great results for energy levels (probably due to it's slight blood thinning properties and all those steaks!), and weight-loss.

Keep An Eye On Drugs Prescribed For The Elderly - They May Be Wrong

A study by the National Center for Health Statistics reported that doctors are prescribing the wrong drugs for the elderly 1 out of every 12 times that they write a prescription.

While that's only a little over 8% of the prescription being written, keep in mind an elderly person may be taking a dozen different drugs themselves.

Doctors don't seem to realize that just as some drugs are deemed not appropriate for children, the same applies for drugs for people 60 and older.

The author of the study Margie Goulding said "for every inappropriate drug, there is a safe alternative."

We just recently experienced this situation with my Dad, who is in a nursing home. One medication the doctor prescribed for him made him almost a zombie. Within a couple of days of coming off it, he was normal again.

So...if someone you know, who is elderly, begins to act the least bit different, start talking to the doctor about the side effects of any and all the medications being given to that person.

ADHD Is In The Brain

Researchers in Bowling Green have found that individuals with ADHD have deficits on the right side of the frontal lobes of their brain.

The researchers induced ADHD in young rats and then attempted various treatments. The researchers found that rough and tumble play especially during adolescence was able to reduce both hyperactivity and ADD. So what are we doing in schools - eliminating gym class and recess so kids can get ready to take Federal government demanded testing.

The Brain Gym(r) movement exercises that I use in my Switched-On Seminars are designed to give children and adults the movement exercises that they need. To learn more about Brain Gym, you can start with -->  Brain Gym Research

For a great resource for parents and teachers of children with ADHD, I recommend these books: -->   Movement Based Learning and Brain Gym Teacher's Edition

New Hope for Parkinson’s – Stem Cells Reverse Parkinson’s in Rats

A study by Steven Goldman, which was detailed in the journal Nature Medicine, reported that injecting neurons derived from human embryonic stem cells into rats suffering from Parkinson’s-like symptoms allowed the animals to regain movement.

Up to 80% of the stem cells began functioning like dopamine-producing neurons. While benign tumors formed around the injection site, Goldman thinks it was caused by neural cells that did not transform into neurons.

He is aiming to eliminate this reaction by injecting only neural cells that will become neurons.

Stopping Alzheimer's With Vitamins

A study published in Archives of Neurology had 4,740 participants.

They were taking 400 IU of Vitamin E and 500 mg of Vitamin C daily. These people had a reduced risk of Alzheimer's an amazing 78%.

I think we should be taking 800 IU of E and 2,000 mg of C.

So...if you don't want to take as much as I recommend, then, at least take what they are recommending in this study.
