Publishing Your eBooks (resources)

As you may know, I’ve just released two new books, Managing Your Stress in Difficult Times: Succeeding in Times of Change along with Switched-On Selling: Balance Your Brain for Sales Success.

We are in the process of being sure these (and my other 3 books) are ready for Barnes & Nobel Nook, Amazon Kindle, and Google eReader, among others.  It’s not difficult, but it is necessary for today’s high tech, on-the-go readers!

If you have a seller account with Amazon, you simply sign up for their Digital Section, and upload your book – they accept several different formats, including HTML and DOC, and will convert it for you to the Kindle store.

I Would Appreciate Your Help

ezinePoll-Manage-Raft copy If you have been reading the last several issues of my Teplitz Email Report, then you know that my two new books have been released – Managing Your Stress in Difficult Times: Succeeding in Times of Change and Switched-On Selling: Balance Your Brain For Sales Success.

I would like to ask for your help in promoting them to your friends and colleagues. If you Twitter, are on Facebook or have a Blog, I’d appreciate if you’d mention the books on them.

If you are comfortable doing this, you could simply say something like – “I have been reading Dr. Jerry Teplitz’ monthly email report and have been impressed with the quality of the information. I understand he has just released two new books Managing Your Stress in Difficult Times: Succeeding in Times of Change and Switched-On Selling: Balance Your Brain For Sales Success. Assuming these books are of similar quality to his Reports, then these books are ‘must’ reading.”

Whatever you say, so long as it’s positive, :) ) would be appreciated. Would you also please direct them to Amazon.com to purchase one or both books?

Magnesium – The Powerful Healer

magnesium The mineral magnesium is a powerful therapeutic healer. It has the capability to smooth out irregular heartbeats, save lives after heart attacks, lower blood pressure, halt asthma attacks, prevent diabetes and its complications, and improve sleep and endurance.

Let me give you some examples of the research supporting many of these benefits.

1. A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial found that administering IV magnesium sulfate to 2,000 patients within 24 hours of a heart attack resulted in 24% fewer deaths. Following up on these patients for one to five years later, the researchers additionally discovered that the patients initially treated with magnesium had a cardiovascular death rate 21% lower than those who did not receive the magnesium.

2. A Korean study found that patients with hypertension who took 300 mg of magnesium daily for three months lowered their systolic/diastolic blood pressure 17.1 and 6.7 mmHG. The researchers also found that for every dose increase of 240 mg of magnesium the patient was taking, the patient’s blood pressure dropped another 4.3 and 2.3 mmHG. These numbers mean an enormous drop in the risk of having a stroke or a heart attack.

3. On the use of magnesium for stopping an acute asthma attack, an interesting survey was conducted of emergency room doctors in 2006. This survey found that even though the majority of the docs knew about the research supporting using magnesium for asthma only 2.5% of the patients having an acute asthma attack were treated with IV magnesium. So…if you or a loved one has an acute asthma attack, question the doc as to why IV magnesium is not being used.

4. A review of studies found that for every 100 mg increase in the daily intake of magnesium there was a 15% decrease in the risk of developing type-2 diabetes. Taking magnesium is important for type-2 diabetics because increased urination causes the loss of water-soluble nutrients. Low levels of magnesium may cause severe diabetic retinopathy.

How much magnesium should you be taking? Dr. Julian Whitaker recommends 400 to 1000 mg daily. Since large amounts of magnesium can cause diarrhea, build up your dose gradually.

Sorbet May Not Be As Healthy As You’d Think

sorbet I’ve always thought that sorbet was good for you since it contains fruit and is low in fat. Well, it turns out I’m wrong.

Store-bought sorbet is often loaded with sweeteners, including high-fructose corn syrup which is definitely not good for you.

In addition, the sorbet may contain “natural flavors” which are chemically processed from fruits and even meats…and me being a vegetarian, too! Sorbet, anyone?

FedEx Develops A System To Track Donor Organs

fedex Federal Express recently got FAA approval for a unique system, SenseAware, to track sensor data and events during the shipment of critically sensitive packages, such as donor organs.

In addition to their regular location tracking data, FedEx is now able to track temperature, light and other vital information about heart valves, knee implants and other organs.

The service uses light and temperature signals to notify recipients if a package has been opened or otherwise spoiled before it gets to its intended destination.

Combining Green Ideas

A reader of OnEarth, Charles J. Cole, wrote a letter to the editor that I thought had some great ideas. He suggested that when we focus on developing renewable energy that we need to use a multipronged approach for conservation. He then gave examples of this approach and I thought one was brilliant.

He’s from Tucson, Arizona, where he’s found that some people are starting to use rainwater for various uses and others are setting up large arrays of solar panels. His idea is to put gutters on solar panels and pipe off the rain into storage areas.

He’s figured since water is scarce in Tucson, which only gets about 12 inches of rain a year, a square mile of solar panels could collect over 208 million gallons of water.

Pretty cool idea!

Combining Vitamin D With Curcumin May Affect Brain Health

curcumin I’ve written many times about the benefits of Vitamin D3 and curcumin. Now researchers are combining the two as a way to boost the body’s immune system and also help clear protein plaques out of the brain that are linked to Alzheimer’s Disease.

The researchers in this study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, took blood samples from nine Alzheimer’s disease patients and treated them with Vitamin D and curcumin. The researchers found that the curcumin enhanced the binding of beta-amyloids to macrophages, which are the scavengers of our immune system. The Vitamin D could then strongly stimulate the uptake and absorption of the beta-amyloids by the macrophages.

While this is early-stage research, it’s got exciting potential.

Carnosine May Help Prevent Cataracts

A study published in the journal Biochemistry reported that carnosine, which is an amino acid, may help to prevent or even treat cataracts.

The researchers looked at the tissue cultures of rat lenses and found that carnosine could help prevent cloudiness on eye lenses and could also restore clarity to clouded lenses. In their research, the cultures treated with carnosine developed 50 to 60% less cloudiness. It also restored most of the clarity to clouded lenses.

So…even though this was research done on rats, if you are experiencing cloudiness on your eye lens, you might want to experiment with taking l-carnosine.
